Gavin's Newsletter: Home Sweet Home

My Life Update

I am spending most of the summer back home in Chicago with my family. While home, I have loved having the opportunity to meet with several virtual friends in person for the first time. This week, I attended two events: the Investor Salon hosted by Ellie Bahrmasel and Michael Neff as well as the Gen Z VCs Future of Chicago Summit hosted by Meagan Lloyst.

Meagan has been huge role model of mine since first entering the venture ecosystem. I truly admire the personal brand she has built entering VC directly after college.

Ecommerce News

Personal brand and team building are crucial in early stage startups. This past week, Stay AI hired Alexa Kilroy as their new Director of Marketing. Previously, Alexa was the Head of Brand at Triple Whale and was the driving force behind “The Whalies” event earlier this year. Super excited to watch her team up with Gina Perrelli to change the subscription game for brands.

State of Fundraising

For the last several years, there has been a large emphasis on funding underrepresented founders. On May 23rd, Docsend released a report with disappointing news: although we made progress from 2020 to 2021, the split worsened in 2022. For a more in depth breakdown of the funding divide, check out the Docsend report here.

My Asks

  • I am actively looking to expand my network of warehouse and 3PL owners. If you are connected with any of these individuals, I would greatly appreciate any introductions you can provide.

  • I am also building my network of VC firms and angel investors that invest in supply chain, manufacturing, and eCommerce infrastructure. Please reach out if this is you!

As always, please reach out if there is anything I can do to support your journey.

Keep dreaming,

Gavin
